DIY Bentonite Clay Armpit Mask
Making the switch from aluminum-based antiperspirant to all-natural deodorant can make you feel anxious about body odor. For many people, it takes time for the underarms to adjust to a new skincare product, and you may experience extra body odor as a result.
A simple armpit detox, however, can help speed up the adjustment process and ease the transition to all-natural deodorant. By eliminating odor, removing buildup from prior deodorants, and detoxing your whole body, an armpit detox can help you make the most of your new all-natural blend!
Here are three reasons why we love making this DIY bentonite clay armpit mask:
Eliminate odor.
This DIY armpit detox uses a blend of bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar to cleanse your armpits. These two powerhouse ingredients have natural antibacterial properties that help eliminate odor-causing bacteria.
Remove the buildup of antiperspirant or aluminum-based deodorant.
Antiperspirant works by creating a gel on the surface of the skin to temporarily clog sweat glands to decrease sweating. This gel often contains irritants such as fragrances, alcohol, and other ingredients. An armpit detox may help remove the antiperspirant buildup from your underarms and soothe irritated skin, ensuring that your underarms are prepared for your new all-natural deodorant.
Detox your body.
Conventional deodorants and antiperspirants contain a wide variety of chemicals and additives, including hormone disruptors like parabens and endocrine-disrupting aluminums. Putting endocrine-disrupting chemicals directly on top of your lymph nodes can lead to hormone and immune dysfunction in the long term. After all, the skin is the body’s largest organ, and what we apply on our skin can easily enter the bloodstream.
One great reason to do an armpit detox is that the main ingredient, bentonite clay, may help pull some of the harmful chemicals from traditional deodorant out of the skin and tissue of the armpits. This can be especially helpful after years of conventional deodorant use, and it can help natural deodorant work better afterwards, too.
What you’ll need:
1 tablespoon of bentonite clay
1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
1-3 teaspoons of water
Instructions:
Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl until the mixture is about the consistency of yogurt.
Apply the mask to the underarms in an even layer.
Allow the mask to sit for 5-20 minutes. Tip: Start with a shorter interval, and then work your way up to a longer period of time once you see how your body reacts. If you experience any pain or irritation, remove immediately!
Wash off in the shower or with a warm, wet washcloth.
Repeat as needed until under-arm odor goes away!
Happy detoxing!
